This Modification helps to syncronize the first step1 to an external source.
when you try to sync from an external source the step2 is in sync with step1 from external.
This Mod fix this issue, for original 1601 and clones

BOM:
3x IC socket
1x IC Pin to IC Pin adapter to solder one end at the PCB and to push one end in the IC socket of the 1601
2x CD4011
(1x CD4520 - from the original place)
1x 100K resistor
3x 100nF ceramic cap (X7R is fine) (decoupling cap)
1x MTA100 3pole header or use a cable with a On/ON switch - use the GND pad for shielding
